About the Course

This course is designed to empower children to develop lifelong healthy habits that positively impact their physical and mental well-being. Over approximately 10 weeks, students will explore a wide range of topics, from sleep and nutrition to mindfulness and community service, engaging in hands-on activities and real-world learning experiences. This unit is accessible to students everywhere and is designed to instill habits that will benefit them throughout their lives.

What is this Course About?

Get ready to embark on an enriching educational journey that emphasizes the importance of self-care, community connection, and overall well-being. Throughout this course, you will delve into key aspects of a healthy lifestyle, including the importance of sleep, positive self-talk, physical activity, hydration, and more. By understanding how these habits affect your daily life, you’ll learn how to cultivate a healthier, happier, and more balanced existence.

Students will engage with each topic through a variety of activities, including creating a personalised “Healthy Habits” booklet, participating in group projects, and reflecting on how these habits can be applied in their daily lives. This course offers a unique opportunity to learn beyond the traditional classroom setting, fostering not only knowledge but also a strong sense of self-awareness, responsibility, and well-being.

Topics We’ll Cover

Self-Reflection: Develop a deep understanding of personal habits and how they influence physical and mental health.

Mindfulness and Emotional Regulation: Learn techniques for managing stress and emotions through mindfulness and positive self-talk.

Collaboration: Work with peers to create projects, share ideas, and support each other in adopting healthy habits.

Communication: Present your findings, ideas, and projects effectively through various mediums, including written, visual, and digital formats.

Problem Solving: Identify obstacles to healthy living and develop practical strategies to overcome them.

Project Management: Plan, execute, and complete a health-related project, managing time and resources effectively.

Community Engagement: Reflect on how these healthy habits can positively impact not only your life but also the well-being of those around you.

What Will We Create?

Throughout this course, we will guide you through activities designed to foster a healthy lifestyle. Each lesson will focus on a specific aspect of well-being, such as sleep, nutrition, or mindfulness. Their task is to create a personalised “Healthy Habits” booklet, where you’ll compile key lessons learned and practical tips for living a balanced life. Once your booklet is complete, you can upload it to the Upschool library, order a copy, and receive a beautiful keepsake to commemorate your journey to well-being.

Weekly Lesson Plans

Teachers will have access to carefully designed lesson plans that can be easily adapted to meet local educational standards and guidelines. These plans ensure that both teachers and parents can tailor the learning experience to the specific needs of their students, making it easier to integrate the course into any curriculum.

Real World Learning

Throughout this course, students will be encouraged to implement the healthy habits they learn into their own lives. They will reflect on how these habits can bring about positive changes in their daily routines, relationships, and overall outlook on life.

Creating a Booklet

Students will create a booklet summarizing the key lessons they’ve learned, along with practical tips for others to follow. This booklet will serve as a guide to living a healthier and more balanced life. Students will also engage in creative projects, such as designing posters, creating wellness products, or participating in community service, all of which will be included in the booklet and shared as part of their contribution to promoting well-being for all.

From graphic design & film making to creative writing and storytelling (and everything in between)

“It has been a privilege for our children to be a part of the initial Upschool program focussing on creating a Changemaking Community.  Our students have been engaged from the outset, and we have seen a measurable improvement in not only their literacy skills but also in their empathy towards others and their understanding of how to connect to communities both locally and abroad. The resources that are provided are outstanding and have kept our students motivated towards their goals.

It has transformed the way that we approach teaching within the school, giving our students an authentic purpose and opportunity to make a real world difference.

As a school we are committed to the work that Upschool is doing and are looking forward to our next work with them.”
Daniel Frew (Principal, Lower Plenty Primary School, Melbourne)

It’s 100% free – yes. Nothing to pay to be involved.

We have 5 year old children right through to adults participating. It’s differentiated and open to everyone.

Either. Whole school engagement is the best way to have maximum impact, but it certainly can be done by one class or by one year level. You can even use it as an extension program for a small number of students too if that works for you.

No, not at all. Individuals (adults and children) can go through the course.
