For millions living in poverty, healthcare is unaffordable and inaccessible, with further inequalities for those in rural and remote areas....
Opportunity International Australia is ending poverty in developing countries, one family and one community at a time. By providing small loans to families in need, Opportunity helps them grow their own businesses and generate sustainable incomes so they can lift themselves out of poverty with dignity. To break the cycle of poverty for good, Opportunity also increases families’ access to healthcare and quality education. We strengthen communities by reducing the risk of human trafficking and domestic violence in order to create a brighter future for generations to come.
Today, 767 million people live on less than $1.90 per day – that’s 1 in every 10 people. Opportunity exists to bring about justice, dignity and purpose for families living in poverty. We do this by supporting local microfinance organisations that provide innovative financial solutions to empower people, create small businesses, and build vibrant communities.
Through our programs, we work with people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender, and seek to help the poorest of the poor wherever possible. We welcome and deeply value relationships with organisations and individuals who share our vision, whether or not they share the beliefs on which our motivation is based. This includes our supporters, investors, program partners, and service providers. This is a hallmark of Opportunity.
Our values are:
We recognise people living in poverty face complex and multi-dimensional issues. Providing financial solutions and training will not alone be enough to enable a world where all people live free from poverty and with dignity and purpose. Accordingly, we are encouraged when we see others doing work we believe can assist in achieving our vision, and when appropriate, we work in partnership with them.
