The Role of Glaciers

Did you know that glaciers make up 10% of the Earth’s total land area? With such a significant portion of the Earth being covered by glaciers, it is important to learn about how they form!

Glaciers act as a protective layer over much of the Earth. One main benefit that glaciers provide to us is that they reflect much of the sunlight back, keeping our planet cooler. As our glaciers melt due to climate change, our planet starts to warm more as a result. Melting glaciers also contribute to rising sea levels, erosion of land, and extreme weather events. It is no wonder why we must act urgently to protect our glaciers from the effects of climate change!
