About the Course

This 10-week course has a particular focus on UN SDG 14 – Life Under Water.

What is this Course About?

This 10-week course will bring together students from around the world to learn about the vital role of the ocean and its inhabitants in shaping our planet. Through a series of lessons covering weather, climate, wildlife, and history, recorded live from the Antarctic region, including the Falklands and South Georgia, students will gain a deeper understanding of the ocean’s significance.

As they progress through the course, students will learn how to make sustainable choices that benefit the ocean and the global community. As they learn from the creatures of the Antarctic, they will also recognize their own agency and the impact they can have as individuals, ultimately understanding that they hold the key to securing a better future for our world.

The children will follow a set of tangible actions prepared in alignment with the SDGs provided by the United Nations.

Alongside these set goals, the children will create and set their very own actions that will help them improve the way that they live. The concept is to allow children around the world to work on an individual level that allows them to act locally but think globally.

Each week valuable lessons will be learned from the flora and fauna of the Antarctic region and these will pave the way for personal reflection and goal-setting for each and every child who embarks on the course.

Real World Learning

During this course we will cover many cross-curricular themes. Nature has so much to offer in the way of education, from the social interaction of penguins, to the links between modern aeroplanes and the wandering albatross. During this course we will truly bring education to life.

As we explore the Antarctic continent, we will bring the most wondrous parts of this majestic region to your fingertips. Allowing us to all learn some of the world’s most valuable lessons from the creatures that call this place home.

During this course, we will allow students to discover that when many people around the world consider themselves as part of nature and make sensible choices in the way that they live, the natural world prevails and the natural world can be restored to help protect all living creatures.

Everything we do at Upschool:

Real-World Learning

We take 'real-world' to the next level by designing projects with 'real' outcomes.

Entrepreneurship With Purpose

We want to teach the entrepreneurs of tomorrow to operate with purpose and ethics.

Team Players & Collaborators

Our projects bring children, teachers and communities together to work towards a common goal.

Creativity & Problem Solving

We inspire creative thinking and dynamic problem solving. These are the skills for tomorrow.

Skill Based Learning

From graphic design & film making to creative writing and storytelling (and everything in between)

“It has been a privilege for our children to be a part of the initial Upschool program focussing on creating a Changemaking Community.  Our students have been engaged from the outset, and we have seen a measurable improvement in not only their literacy skills but also in their empathy towards others and their understanding of how to connect to communities both locally and abroad. The resources that are provided are outstanding and have kept our students motivated towards their goals.

It has transformed the way that we approach teaching within the school, giving our students an authentic purpose and opportunity to make a real world difference.

As a school we are committed to the work that Upschool is doing and are looking forward to our next work with them.”
Daniel Frew (Principal, Lower Plenty Primary School, Melbourne)

?

It’s 100% free – yes. Nothing to pay to be involved.

We have 5 year old children right through to adults participating. It’s differentiated and open to everyone.

Either. Whole school engagement is the best way to have maximum impact, but it certainly can be done by one class or by one year level. You can even use it as an extension program for a small number of students too if that works for you.

No, not at all. Individuals (adults and children) can go through the course.
