Did you know that there are nearly 10,000 unique species of birds found across the world?

With so many different types of birds, it is no surprise that this flying animal can be found on all 7 of Earth’s continents. Inhabiting so many parts of the world has led to birds developing some very interesting adaptations in order to thrive in such different environments. For example, penguins have adapted to hold their breath for up to 20 minutes for swimming, while emus have evolved to be flightless and instead are expert runners. These great differences in form and ability between each species are why birds are such a captivating animal to study!
